Meteorite Fragment Could Be 'Space Junk'

The National Radiation Laboratory says a rock fragment suspected to be part of a meteorite could simply be a piece of "space junk".

A Canterbury farmer found the rock on Tuesday after a meteor streaked through the sky, and it was passed to the laboratory for testing.

Scientists have confirmed that the palm-sized fragment is not radioactive, but they are not sure of its origins and it could be a piece of an old satellite that has fallen back to Earth.
